Essay

Argumentative essay should include ‘for’ and ‘against’ arguments related to given issue.

e.g. Advantages and disadvantages of working in corporation.

Layout

Essay should have following parts:

Introduction. It is a part of our essay in which it is a must to include issue from the topic. It is important not to write about our personal opinion about it.

Main body. This part consists of few paragraphs with ‘for’ and ‘against’ argument.

Conclusion. There should be a short summary at the end of our essay. It can also be a personal opinion about the issue.

Remember !

ü  Arguments should be supported with examples, statistics, facts etc.

ü  Use formal language e.g. I am instead of I’m

Example (Advantages and Disadvantages of having a computer)

Introduction.

Have you ever imegined your life without computers. They are very useful but they may also bring some problems in our life or development. Let's discuss advantages and disadvantages of using them. -

Arguments 'for'

First of all... / To start with... /One major advantages... / Firstly / To begin with

Arguments 'against'

There are also some drawbacks of... / One the other hand... / Unfortunately / Another disadvantage is …

Conclusion

Personal opinion, summary of all arguments

To sum up... / All in all..  / On the whole...  / All things considered...  /In conclusion... / Taking it all into consideration

Make a list of 10 activities that can be relaxing.

Which activity from the list makes you relaxed? Why? Why not?

Try to think of your dream job. What would it be? You can write down the features of the company, the conditions it offers or your ideal boss.

Describe your ideal company, boss, colleagues, working hours, location of a company and many other aspects of having a job.

1. Make a list of as many adjectives as you can

2. Write simple sentences in which you use vocabulary from the prepared list and describe ideal company, boss and colleagues.

Remember to use as many adjectives as you can remember !
